Miscellanea
Alaska Ethics Opinions: The AG’s office has issued two opinions on state employee participation in the Kenai River Classic. One advises Board of Fisheries members not to participate, absent extenuating circumstances. The other sets out less restrictive rules for other state employees.
Directory of Employment Law Blogs: There are currently at least 52 employment law blogs (or blawgs), some covering jurisdictions (California, New Jersey), others specific substantive areas (many on ERISA). The directory can be found here.
Research on employment contract and Wage and Hour Issues: California’s Division of Labor Standards Enforcement publishes an Enforcement Policies and Interpretations Manual that is very useful in researching common employment contract questions. The Manual cites to caselaw (California, of course) on such questions as validity of employment provisions forfeiting vacation pay if the employee resigns, or the employee’s right to commission when the employer terminates her or his employment. The DLSE keeps the manual up-to-date and on-line.
