Judicial vacancies:  Ketchikan Superior Court Judge Michael Thompson will not run for retention. 

Barrow Superior Court Judge Michael Jeffery is sitting pro tem until the Judicial Council fills the seat vacated by the Supreme Court.  The applicants are Jeffery, Rosemary (”Poke”) Haffner of Fairbanks, and Steven D. Smith of Anchorage.

Alyeska easement over Shirley Butler Native Allotment:  The 9th Circuit has affirmed Judge Ralph Beistline’s holding that Butler’s 1981 easement agreement with Alyeska, which provided that the term of the easement was coextensive with the “term and duration” of the TAPS Agreement, was automatically extended beyond 2004 when Alyeska renewed the TAPS Agreement for 30 years.

February ELS meeting:  The next meeting of the Employment Law Section will finish up the Ethics discussion started in December.
