Clinton and Employment Law

We earlier mentioned Sen. Obama’s primary employee rights bill - the Independent Contractor Proper Classification Act of 2007.  It has not been enacted.

Sen. Clinton’s claim on employment law is the Employee Free Choice Act of 2007.  The bill would eliminate NLRB elections where a majority of the barganing unit had signed cards for a union and no other union currently represented the unit, provide for liquidated damages and civil penalties, etc.  The bill passed the House.  In the Senate, a cloture motion failed to receive 60 votes.  Sen Obama was a co-sponsor of the bill.

On a related note: all NLRB-conducted elections will now feature an American flag, to impress upon the participants the seriousness of the occasion.  H/T: Employer Law Report.

As for Sen. McCain: I don’t know of any notable positions that Sen. McCain has taken on labor or employment issues.  Arizona is a “right to work” state.  If any reader has information on McCain and such issues, please let me know.
