Alaska Civil Liberties Union: New Executive Director

jeff-mittman.bmpThe new Executive Director of the Alaska Civil Liberties Union is attorney Jeffrey Mittman.  Mittman has primary responsibility for managing all day-to-day operations, directing and coordinating the work of the professional and support staff, serving as primary spokesperson, and leading advocacy and fundraising. 

Formerly the Deputy National Field Director of the national ACLU, working out of the Washington Legislative Office, Mittman led the day-to-day operations of the ACLU Field Team. He also served as the PATRIOT Act and Post-9/11 Campaign Coordinator for the Northern California Affiliate of the ACLU, advocating for reform of the USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, he worked with the ACLU National Office and Affiliates on the debut season of the ACLU Freedom Files TV Show. 

Mittman was in private law practice for several years, specializing in litigation, including criminal defense and representing plaintiffs in employment discrimination matters.  He is a former Airborne Ranger-qualified Infantry First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

A graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Mittman served as Symposium Editor for the Constitutional Law Quarterly. His undergraduate degree is from Yale University, where he was a member of the Political Union.
