Employment Bills Before the Alaska Legislature

The 1st session of the Twenty-sixth Alaska Legislature is considering bills mandating paid sick leave, limiting OT for nurses, increasing the minimum wage, converting Alaska to a “right to work” state, and opposing the federal Employee Free Choice Act. 

It’s too early in the session to identify which bills may actually pass, but it one bill seems to have some steam: SB1, to increase the minimum wage, which is sponsored by Senators Wielechowski, Ellis, Thomas, Davis, and French.  The Senate Labor and Commerce Committee held a hearing on SB1 today (February 5th) and  will hold another on February 12th.
