Alaska Legal Miscellanea: Managerial Generosity, and Anchorage’s Little Title 18
Curry on employer favors: Lynne Curry’s Sunday ADN column addresses how employers should deal with unrealistic employee expectations of managerial generosity.
Anchorage’s anti-discrimination ordinance: The blogs BentAlaska and Henkimaa, and the site for the coalition group Equality Works, support the proposed expansion of jurisdiction for the Equal Rights Commission to include sexual orientation, and gender/identity expression. The Alaska Family Council and Anchorage attorney Kevin Clarkson oppose, the latter claiming proposed Ordinance 2009-64 is “poorly written, overly broad, and unconstitutional.” Pollster Ivan Moore argues, in the Anchorage Press, that the Assembly should act favorably on a ban on discrimination against only traditionally-defined gays and lesbians.
The text of the proposed ordinance is here. Introduced on May 12th by Assembly Member Patrick Flynn, the measure comes up for a public hearing on Tuesday, June 9th.
