John Roberts’s Brief for Alaska
John Roberts’ brief for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation in the Red Dog EPA case has been called the “best brief” ever presented to the U S Supreme Court. An article by legal writing professional Ross Guberman analyzes the brief and agrees. While he oddly fails to note that DEC lost the case, ADEC v. EPA, 540 US 460 (2004), the author identifies the specifics of Roberts’s particular talent in powerful legal writing. With Roberts on the brief was Cam Leonard of the Fairbanks AG’s office and the then-AG, Gregg Renkes. H/T: Volokh Conspiracy
