Sedwick affirms DOL penalty against setnetters employing 13-year old
Two setnetters challenged a U. S. Department of Labor finding that they had illegally employed a minor for two seasons (when he was 13 and 14) in their fishing operations.  Judge John Sedwick has affirmed the ALJ’s decision, which imposed a penalty of $11,700 against the employers.

Alaska DOL Issues WHPLS on Child Labor and LLCs

Grey Mitchell, Director of the Labor Standards & Safety Division of the state Department of Labor, has issued two WHPLs (Wage & Hour Policy Letters).  
The first (08/08/07) amends WHPL # 169 and, based on AS 11.76.100(a)(4), states that retailers selling tobacco products may not employ minors under 19 to sell those items.
